Donald Trump keeps raging that all the indictments against him are just blatant election interference. I call BS.
Trump announced his candidacy for President, for the 2024 election on November 15, 2022. The announcement was almost two years before the actual election date. Declaring two years before an election is unheard of. Just does not happen.
Donald Trump’s payments to Karen McDougal and Stormy Daniels saw the light of day in 2018. Michael Cohen became ensnared in the plot to keep the payments hidden and was jailed for it. Cy Vance, the Manhattan District Attorney, at the time, issued a subpoena for records of hush money payments back in August 2019. This was fully three years before Trump declared his candidacy.
The Mar-a-Lago classified documents case begin with Trump and aides packing and sending off classified documents back when Trump was still President. National Archives requested that Trump hand over documents that they identified as missing back in May 2021. The back and forth between Trump, National Archives and, eventually, the FBI culminated in Trunp’s Mar-a-Lago home on August 8, 2022. This was three months before Trump announced his candidacy.
The January 6 insurrection resulted in the Department of Justice (DOJ) starting an investigation, the following day. The investigation picked up steam with the January 6 Committee and the assigning of Jack Smith as Special Counsel. The investigation begin over a year and a half before Trump announced his candidacy.
Trump contested the Georgia election results immediately after the election was called for Biden. He made his ‘perfect call’ to Georgia Secretary of State Brett Raffensperger on January 2, 2021. Fani Willis began her investigation on Trump’s attempts to overturn the Georgia election results on February 10, 2021, a year and a half before Trump announced his candidacy.
All 4 indictments resulted from investigations that began far before Trump announced his candidacy. It can be said that instead of election interference Trump is guilty of attempting to tamper with the investigations by announcing his candidacy so early. Clearly Trump wanted to delay or at least derail the investigations by his announcement. What Trump is finding out is that while the wheels of justice may turn slowly, justice will be served.
