Pressure Tactics

The Republican clown show for the Speakership keeps going downhill. Gym Jordan is the latest to try to assume the mantle and he has already lost in two votes, getting less votes, in the second attempt One of the reasons for his failure is that his team is trying to intimidate fellow Republican Congressman to vote for him.

Take the case of Sean Hannity, noted entertainer on Fox entertainment. A producer, on his show, sent an email to Republican staffers which included the following,

“Sources tell Hannity that Rep. xxxx is not supporting Rep. Jim Jordan for speaker. Can you please let me know if this is accurate? And if true, Hannity would like to know why, during a war breaking out between Israel and Hamas, with the war in Ukraine, with the wide open borders, with a budget that’s unfinished, why would Rep. xxxx be against Rep. Jim Jordan for Speaker?”

Then there is this tweet from former Fox entertainer Glen Beck,

“If you’re living in a district with a weenie, wishy-washy Republican, call them and politely warn that if they don’t elect a truly conservative House Speaker, we will campaign against you. And we will find your replacement. Call your member and tell them to vote for Jim Jordan.”

Of course, it gets worse. The wife of Nebraska Congressman, Don Bacon, received the following anonymous texts

“Talk to your husband tell him to step up and be a leader and help the Republican party get a speaker. There’s too much going on in the world for all this going on in Republican party. You guys take five steps forward and then turn around take 20 steps backwards – no wonder our party always ends up getting screwed over.”

And,

“Why is your husband causing chaos by not supporting Jim Jordan? I thought he was a team player. Your husband will not hold any political office ever again. What a disappoint [sic] and failure he is.”

One congressman reacted to the intimidation tactics, as follows,

“If anybody’s trying to get my vote, the last thing you want to do is try to intimidate or pressure me because then I close out entirely.”

The circus continues with a possible government shutdown less than a month away now.
