I glossed over this in the ‘Puppeteer’ chirp a couple of days ago but it merits attention. Donald Trump, a couple of days said that if and NATO countries did not pay their fair share in defense spending, Trump would ‘encourage’ Russia,
“to do whatever the hell they want”
“You don’t pay your bills, you get no protection. It’s very simple.”
Think of it. This a former sitting President of the United States basically telling Russia ‘to have at her’.
NATO was formed in 1949 to as a check against the Soviet Union and the Eastern Bloc countries, under its rule. Putin, as evidenced by his invasions of Georgia, Crimea and Ukraine represents the greatest threat to Western Democracy, since the fall of the Berlin Wall, back in 1989.
Trump’s threat is not an idle one. During his time, as President, he consistently denigrated NATO and kept threatening to pull the US out of NATO. Trump boasts about the time that he told a leader of a ‘large’ NATO country, that if Russia invaded, Trump would do nothing because the NATO country was delinquent.
Back in 2016, apologists for Trump and most of the media reacted to Trump’s outlandish statements by saying ‘that is Trump just being Trump’. People soon found out that Trump actually meant what he was saying and wanted the actions carried out. Fortunately, there were enough guard rails, such as John Kelly, in place to keep him from actioning his desires. If Trump wins, this November, like Hitler, Trump will surround himself with yes men. There will be no guard rails. Trump says that he will end the war in Ukraine in one day. The only way that happens is if Trump completely lets his friend Putin to have his way.
