Country First

From CNN website

John McCain, back in 2008, used the phrase, ‘ country first’ as a foundation of his campaign for president. Liz Cheney is the primary example of that phrase being adopted.

Cheney was in the top echelon of the house Republican leadership only a couple years back. She voted on Trump initiatives over 90% of the time. Many saw her as running for president one day. she is a staunch pro lifer. She is a staunch advocate of the constitution. She had it all as a conservative Republican.

Following Donald Trump‘s election loss, in November 2020, Cheney saw firsthand, Trump’s attempt to overturn the election results culminating in the January 6 insurrection. Cheney was one of 10 Republicans, in the House, who voted to impeach Donald Trump. in doing so, she sabotaged her own political aspirations. She was voted out in the 2022 Wyoming Republican primary. She literally did put country first.

Now she is campaigning with Kamala Harris. As a staunch pro life advocate, Cheney said this,

“I have been troubled by the extent to which you have women who, as the vice president said, in some cases, have died, who can’t get medical treatment that they need because providers are worried about criminal liability.”

As a strong constitutionalist, Chaney said this,

“You have to choose in this race between someone who has been faithful to the Constitution, who will be faithful, and Donald Trump, who – it’s not just us predicting how he will act. We watched what he did after the last election. We watched what he did on January 6.”

What Cheney is basically doing, is telling Republicans, especially Republican women, that it is OK to vote for Democrat President this time around.

“I would just remind people, if you’re at all concerned, you can vote your conscience and not ever have to say a word to anybody. There will be millions of Republicans who do that on November 5.”

In an election that is this close, it might be the most conservative of Republicans who might be the most influential in giving Kamala Harris the presidency.
