My parents were in their teens when first Germany and then Russia invaded their home country of Poland. To this day, I don’t know the whole story of what happened to them during the war. I do know that my mom could never eat chicken because of the work camp she ended up in, she always had to take eggs from the nest each morning. My dad was beaten during the war and until the day he died he had nightmares every night.

They had a chance to go back to Stalin occupied Poland after the war. They chose a better life and immigrated to Canada. Eastern Europe was under Russian rule until the wall fell down 40+ years later. Until 2016 Republicans were anti-Russian. Then Donald Trump came into power.

Vladimir Putin says that the worst thing that ever happened to Russia was the collapse of the Soviet Empire. He wants to restore Russia back to those days. He invaded Ukraine. The Ukrainians have fought bravely, with the support of western monies, weapons, and sanctions against Russia. The US under Biden has been the main driving force.

That aid will stop soon. Trump says that he could end the war in one day. He is right. He will stop all aid to Ukraine. He will let Putin have Ukraine. We may never know what the hold is that Putin has on him. Trump winning the election is a gift to Putin.

Putin will not stop at Ukraine. He wants to restore Russia back to the days of the Soviet Union. What happens when Putin starts sending forces into Poland and other former communist and now NATO countries?
