Filling The Swamp

One of Donald Trump’s catch phrases, when he was running in 2016, was that he was going to drain the swamp, in Washington. He then proceeded to fill the swamp up with the number of people close to him ending up in jail.

But Americans decided to believe him and voted him in again this year. This time he’s going to turn the swamp into the Everglades.

Let’s go with just two examples. Peter Hegseth, weekend Fox News anchor, has been selected for secretary of defense. it is now coming out that a sexual assault complaint was issued against Peter, back in 2017, in California. Doesn’t see much for the top transition team vetting process. But that is nothing compared to the new Attorney General to be Matt Gaetz. There was a House Ethics committee report that was supposed to come out quite soon on allegations of sexual misconduct against Gaetz. Trump skirted this by selecting Gaetz for the AG spot, with Matt subsequently resigning from Congress. Mike Johnson, the speaker of the house, now wants that report to be squashed and never released. So much for transparency. In one of the hearings that this committee held, there was an eyewitness that testified that she saw Matt having sex with a minor. This is our new potential AG. Of course, Trump and Johnson want this report quashed. It will eventually come out, one way or another. The Republicans have the majority in Senate. The Senate has responsibility of approving nominations. It’s a 50-50 flip as to whether the Senate would approve both the nominations of Peter and Matt. I would not be surprised if they do. This is no longer the Republican Party. This is the Trump party.
