Goodbye Twitter

Today is my last day on Twitter. I was going to leave next Sunday, but I just couldn’t stay on Twitter one more day. I am now going to bluesky where sanity still reigns.

A number of other Twitter followers are doing the same thing. Since the election bluesky followers have increased by 583%. The number of followers have now jumped up to 20 million. This is still a far cry from the number of Twitter users and even users of Threads, but the number will increase, regardless.

Twitter, given that the owner is Elon Musk, is turning into a state run social media outlet. Musk is now part of the Trump crime syndicate. I no longer want any part of it.

I do get a bit of joy knowing that my leaving and others leaving Twitter reduces Twitter’s advertising value and their monetary value. Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion. It is valued for far less now.

Twitter has become far too toxic for those of us opposed to Trump. I recognize that this will not help address the divide and another blow for compromise and meeting in the middle given that social media outlets will be divided between us and them. But sometimes the goal for sanity, in the short term, outweighs more long-term idealistic goals.

That’s all I got for today.
