There is a difference between liberal and democrat supporters, in Canada and the US and MAGA and Poilievre cult supporters. Where the latter blindly accept anything their leaders do, we liberals and democrats feel free to question what our leaders do.
The liberal government, under Justin Trudeau, will be sending out, early next year, $250 cheques to 18 million Canadians, who worked in 2023 and made less than $150,000 . This will cost the government almost $5 billion. These cheques will not be going to Canadians on social assistance, unemployed, Canadians, during that time, and senior citizens of which I am one of.
So let’s take a hypothetical example here. There is a married couple, let’s call them, Gertrude and Heathcliff, who both make around $100,000 a year. with this announcement, they will be getting $500 in total. now there’s a senior living by himself, let’s call him Bullwinkle, who is subsiding on CPP and OAS payments barely getting by. This poor schmuck is getting nothing. Where is the sense in this?
Back in 2006, Ralph Klein, Alberta’s Conservative Party premier, handed out $400 checks to every Albertan who filed income tax the year before. These checks went to 3 million Albertans. The money handed out soon became known as Ralph Bucks or Klein bucks.
Klein did this, at a time, with Alberta was enjoying a major surplus, due to oil and gas revenues. The Trudeau government is doing this at a time when Canada is enduring major deficits.
Both my daughters with their spouses, will qualify for this payment. For that I am happy. I am fairly well off myself. So not getting the $250 cheque will not hurt me at all. Many Canadians are not in that same boat.
There is an election coming next year, and many Canadians will see this as an election bribe. How can they not? Meanwhile, many Canadians will be alienated because they will not receive a cheque. This is not going to end well.
All I got for today.
