North American Arctic?

ever since I was a kid, our northern Canadian territories were known as the Canadian Arctic. Now, in the last little while, especially following Justin Trudeau‘s trip to Mar-a-Lago, our territories have been referred to as the North American arctic.

Ever since John Franklin‘s failed attempt to discover a northwest passage, back in 1845, countries have been trying to exploit this route.

Climate change is such that it is predicted that by the 2030s, the northwest passage will be ice free in the summer. This will allow the exploitation a vast reservoirs of oil currently being untapped. Russia and China are looking greedily at the Arctic. For China, the quickest way to get to Europe is through the north.

Canada has talked a good game for years about protecting the sovereignty of the Canadian Arctic. But that’s all Canada has done. From a military standpoint, Canada has done, barely nothing. That blame goes to all recent Canadian governments, whether they be conservative or liberal. It would cost billions, now, just to build up an infrastructure needed to defend the Canadian north. Guess who has the immediate resources to be able to build up such an infrastructure. Our neighbour to the south. A neighbour who will soon have Trump for President. Hence, the renaming of the term Canadian Arctic to North American Arctic. Trump will get concessions, from Canada, to build up such an infrastructure. In this case, it is nobody’s fault, but our own. .

That is all I have for today
