back in 2015, when Justin Trudeau was running against Darth Vader, also known as Stephen Harper, Trudeau promised sunny ways ahead. He won that election he won a few more since. He has pulled some blunders, as all prime ministers do, but he pulled his biggest one last Friday.
Chrystia Freeland, the finance minister, was set to give her fall economic speech on Monday. Last Friday Trudeau told her that she was going to be removed from her finance minister post and given another posting. In essence, Trudeau was setting Feeeland up. Freeland was going to get the flack for giving the economic statement and then Trudeau was going to remove her from her finance minister post. Well. Chrystia did not take that too well. She resigned and submitted a stinging resignation letter to Trudeau.
While Trudeau promised sunny ways, back in 2015, the current environment is not sunny at all. Donald Trump is threatening a 25% tariff on all goods coming in from Canada. Freeland is well aware of this and she wants to have all weapons ready to combat this. The last thing needed, in her thought process, was a GST holiday
“That means eschewing costly political gimmicks, which we can ill afford and which make Canadians doubt that we recognize the gravity of the moment.”
Her resignation has sent shockwaves in the Canadian political landscape. Opposition leaders are calling for Trudeau’s resignation. Of course they are. How else can they react? There might be more defections from Trudeau’s cabinet. There are also more liberal MPs calling for him to step down
Donald Trump does not like Freeland. first of all, she’s a strong opinionated woman, and Trump can’t stand that. This is what Trump had to say about Freeland’s resignation,
“The Great State of Canada is stunned as the Finance Minister resigns, or was fired, from her position by Governor Justin Trudeau.
Her behavior was totally toxic, and not at all conducive to making deals which are good for the very unhappy citizens of Canada. She will not be missed!!!”
Trump is such an ass. if Trudeau is to step down, after Trump‘s comment. Freeland would be a favourite to take Trudeau’s place.
That’s all I got for today.
