All But One

All, but one premier, attended the first minister’s conference yesterday concerning Donald Trump’s threat to impose a 25% tariff on all goods coming into the United States from Canada. That one premier did attend by video because she’s vacationing ironically enough in the US. All, but one premier, signed a joint agreement at the conclusion of the conference. The one premier who did not sign will be attending Donald Trump inauguration next week.

The joint statement concluded as follows,

“We stand firm in our resolve to protect our borders, support our communities, and collaborate with international partners to address common challenges.”

Of course, that one premier is Danielle Smith from my province of Alberta.

“Alberta will simply not agree to export tariffs on our energy or other products, nor do we support a ban on exports of these same products.”

Naturally, she is lambasted, today, from all corners of Canada, as well as as she should be. This hurts my liberal heart to say so but Doug Ford was impressive yesterday. Wearing a Trump like hat that said ‘Canada not for sale’, Ford had the following to say,

Protect your jurisdiction but country comes first. Canada is a priority, and I don’t believe in jeopardizing one sector or another. Premier Smith’s oil is Ontario’s auto sector.”

The Canadian premier’s are all united on this except for Alberta’s, Danielle Smith. Donald Trump has declared economic war on Canada. Canada considered itself on a war footing. Danielle, just get in line.

All I have for today.
