I remember when Donald Trump came to power back in 2016. He started talking about wanting to do things that most rational people said couldn’t be done and that he couldn’t be serious. Well he did them within the guard rails that he had at the time
This time around, he has no guard rails. he is acting as if he is in an autocracy instead of democracy. He has talked about annexing Canada and turning it into a 51st state. Anyone who says he can’t be serious is an idiot. He is serious, dead serious.
Prime Minister Trudeau held an economic summit meeting, on Friday, with business and labour leaders across Canada. Here is just some of the things Trudeau said,
“I suggest that not only does the Trump administration know how many critical minerals we have but that may be even why they keep talking about absorbing us and making us the 51st state.”
“They’re very aware of our resources, of what we have and they very much want to be able to benefit from those. But Mr Trump has it in mind that one of the easiest ways of doing that is absorbing our country.”
We Canadians are starting to take Trump serious. One example is an Angus Reid poll taken back in December and again now in February. Back in December 45% of Quebec’s said they were proud to be Canadian. That has gone up to now near 60%. That is quite telling.
Prime Minister Trudeau is heading off to Europe to meet with EU leaders to shore up trade relations and alliances. Within Canada provinces are getting together to reduce trade barriers between provinces. There is talk of an east west pipeline connecting Canada. There is a new talk of adding pipelines to the West Coast to facilitate access of oil shipments to Asia
Trump has set a 30 day pause of the 25% tariffs. The new deadline date is March one. This is far from over. However, Canada will stand strong, and Trump has no idea what he’s messing with.
All I got for today.
