Canada will have a new Prime Minister by tonight. It is expected to be this guy above, Mark Carney.
With Trump being president, the world has changed and so has the political landscape in Canada. A little over two months ago, the liberals were languishing in the polls with Trudeau being seen as a major drag on liberal election hopes. The conservative catchphrase at that time was Canada is broken. Pierre Poilievre was seen as the heir apparent. He was using many of the same phrases that Trump was using such as the phrase common sense solution.
Two months later, Trudeau has resigned and is now seen by many as Captain Canada defending Canada against Trump and Trump‘s dreams of Canada being a 51st state Trudeau will be leaving on a high note. This, no one expected two months ago.
Krista Freeland was expected to take over the mantle. Then, Carney put his hat in the ring and is now expected to win this afternoon. The conservative catchphrase of Canada is broken is no longer being used. All this in a two month period.
Trump has threatened the imposition of 25% tariffs twice and he has backed down both times. Now he is threatening our milk cows. Canada has stood up to the bully and has imposed and still is imposing $30 billion in tariffs in return
The conservatives may still win the election coming up. Carney and the liberals may have peaked under this new wave of patriotism. That remains to be seen. Also, what remains to be seen is when the next election date will be set. It could be anytime between now and October. The smart money says it will be the spring. A lot of this again will depend on what Trump does next and how Canada responds and how Canadians respond to the response.
That is all I have for today.
