As the caption says, Thomas Lukaszuk is a former deputy premiere of the conservative party of Alberta. He is now organizing a petition to keep Alberta in Canada. The petition has a simple question. Do you want Alberta to stay in Canada? He needs 294,000 signatures to bring this question to a referendum.
Thomas has been organizing volunteers and having volunteers go
out and seek signatures all summer. So far there are 3000 volunteers collecting signatures. These volunteers have been going to events and locations such as summer festivals, farmers markets, dog parks, and others to gather signatures. Volunteers feel there is a momentum growing and they are quite certain they will get the 294,000 signatures required. They only have a 90 day period to get these signatures. Thomas is quite optimistic.
“When we get to 300,000 signatures, believe it or not, this will be the biggest petition in the history of Canada.”
This petition drive is putting a couple people in the hot seat. One of them is Daniel Smith. Lukaszuk has asked Smith a couple of times whether she will sign the petition. She has declined to answer. Another one in the hot seat is Pierre Poilievre. He just got a seat in central Alberta, the heart of separatist country. He’s going to have some difficult moments in Parliament when he comes back in September when this issue is raised. Does he support Canada or does he support the constituents in his riding.
Alberta will have beautiful weather this week. It will be unseasonably, warm and sunny. The volunteers will have perfect weather to get more signatures
That is all I have for today.
