Perfect Storm?

Many, including a large number of Republicans, are distressed that the Republican party has turned into the Trump party. Many Republicans, in the house and the Senate, have sided with Trump on every issue because of their fear of the MAGA base. However, Republicans have been handed an opportunity to go against Trump and still have the support of the MAGA base. For years, Republicans led by Donald Trump have been insisting upon the release of the Epstein files. They accused the deep state of protecting Democrats, such as Bill Clinton, from the ramifications of being associated with Epstein. The MAGA base, constantly being fed, conspiracy theories, related to Epstein, have gone on full attack mode, demanding the release of the files.

Donald Trump set up his own trap. Back in the summer, Pam Bondi declared that there would be no more investigation on the Epstein files because there is no there, there. The MAGA base went nuts. Especially given that Bondi, back in February of this year said that the Epstein files were on her desk and full of incriminating evidence.

The problem was that a lot of that evidence pointed to Donald Trump. Trump for months now has been claiming that the Epstein mess is a hoax. Yet, yesterday, he ordered Pam Bondi to open investigations on prominent Democrats, such as Bill Clinton, in pursuit of incriminating evidence related to Epstein. Trump did this while saying the investigation as a hoax and Pam Bondi saying that there is no there, there

Mike Johnson, meanwhile, had been stalling on holding a vote to release the files, in the House. However, the petition was signed this week by 218 house members forcing a vote. The vote will be held next week.

Now here is the stunning part. It is expected that close to 100 Republicans will vote in favour of the release of the files by the Department of Justice. That would mean that over 2/3 of congress members would be voting for release of the files. This will put the Senate on notice that they need to have a vote too. Up to now, the Senate has said they will not take up the issue. They may be forced to do so. If that vote ends up with a 2/3 majority, Donald Trump‘s veto power to not sign this into law would be overridden.

So here we are, where Republicans have a chance to not support Donald Trump, and still have the support of his MAGA base. The perfect storm.

That’s all I have today.
