Canada had a love affair with Wayne Gretzky, many years ago. He was the Great One. He had a statue outside the old Edmonton Northlands Coliseum. It is now in front of the Rogers Place arena. He could do no wrong.

Times have changed. He started hanging around Donald Trump. He was at Trump‘s election victory party, earlier this year. Although he was honorary captain for Team Canada in the Four Nations Cup, in February, he didn’t wear a Team Canada jersey. Miracle on Ice goalie, Mike Eruzione, honorary captain for Team USA, proudly wore a Team USA jersey. When Gretzky came out on the ice, he ignored the Team Canada bench and gave a thumbs up to the team USA bench. He was caught at a Washington Capitals game sitting beside Kash Patel, Trump’s puppet FBI director.

Gretzky‘s status with Canadians went down so much that his statue was smeared with feces, back in March of this year. Wayne was hurt by the slings and arrows thrown his way. He claims that he’s a true Canadian, and he always will be even though he has lived in the states for the last year 40 years.

Wayne you did not do any favours for yourself this week. The image of you golfing with Donald Trump is not going to put you in a good graces of Canadian hearts. There’s a meme going around social media now saying that Wayne did play for the Oilers and other teams, he now plays for the predators. It is not a good look, Wayne.
