These first two quotes, pretty well identifies why Donald Trump signed onto this MOU, which could be best to describe as a US surrender to Iran
“I didn’t want to see economic catastrophe. If you kept this going, that could have happened.”
“The one president I did not want to be was the late, great Herbert Hoover.”
Hoover is most associated with the 1929 depression
These are just some of the low lights from the MOU.
All military activities cease immediately, including those in Lebanon. That itself will not happen, given that Israel will continue to attack Lebanon. So that in itself might kill this MOU.
The US and Iran will respect the sovereignty of the other country and will not interfere in internal affairs of that country. When Trump initially attacked Iran, he called for the Iranian people to overthrow the government. He said one of the main goals was regime change. This is a complete capitulation of what Trump said in the beginning of the war.
There is a commitment to reach a final deal within 60 days of the signing of the MOU. The Obama deal with Iran, took two years to negotiate. This will never happen. What happens on day 61 then?
For the 60 day length of the MOU, all ships will have safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran will work with Oman to determine what administration of ship passage will look like on day 61. This is another term for tolls will be collected
The US, with regional partners will work on a plan to provide Iran with $300 billion for reconstruction in Iran. $300 billion is similar to Iran’s annual GDP. How much of that will be used to upgrade Iran’s military capacities and to provide funding to terrorist groups?
All sanctions on Iran are immediately lifted.
All US forces upon completion of agreement will be removed from the vicinity of Iran. There are 22 military basis in the military east. Does this mean that all these bases will be removed from the Middle East?
Iran continues to reaffirm that they will not work on developing a nuclear bomb. They have said this all along. Notice the word ‘continues”.
The US will unfreeze all frozen Iranian assets. It is estimated that this is around $24 billion if not more. Do you remember how Trump was so angry at Obama releasing $1.4 billion in assets in his deal with Iran?
This MOU is being severely attacked within the US by both Democrats and Republicans. One Republican senator called it the worst foreign relations blunder ever.
Iran is in a much stronger position now than they were before Trump started this war. It has cost the US $80 billion in military treasure and 13 American lives. Also the number of US military bases, in the Middle East, will need substantial reconstruction, having suffered attacks by Iran.
This is a total humiliation for Trump and for the United States
That’s all I have to say for today.
