A trade deal might be in the works. Tariff rates for goods such as steel aluminum and vehicles will go down. The question is, will the degree of decrease, be enough to satisfy Canadian producers of these goods. If they can live with it fine. If not, it becomes another story.

Two premieres, including Scott Moe of Saskatchewan, have already expressed support for the tentative deal. The thing is, the goods that Saskatchewan exports are not really being hit by the tariffs.

As of this morning, Doug Ford has been silent. Ontario has been hit hard with tariffs on steel and the auto industry. If he comes out in support of the tentative deal that’ll be a big plus for Mark Carney. But if he’s against the deal that pretty well guarantees back to the drawing board.

Mark Carney has asked provinces to put US booze back on the shows. The question is will the Canadian consumer buy US booze. It appears that a majority won’t.

Another issue is Donald Trump himself. He might agree to a deal tomorrow and then next week might want to renegotiate again. That’s what happens when you deal with someone with mental stability issues.

Will Canadians start going back to the US. Some will. Many, including myself, won’t.

Canada has learned a valuable lesson here. Never depend on one country for trade again, ever. Mark Carney has spent the last year diversifying, but Canada still has a long and painful way to go
