This is Judge Tanya Chutkan. She is Black She is a woman. She has become Donald Trump’s worst nightmare.

There was a pre-trial hearing held yesterday where Chutkan issued a protective order. The Department of Justice (DOJ) wanted all materials provided by them, to the Trump defense team, covered by the protective order. In the one victory, for team Trump, the judge said that only sensitive material, as designated by the DOJ, would be covered by the protective order. This includes witness testimony and recordings. So, that means Donald Trump can not talk about, in any public venue and social media, anything about witness testimony or recordings. A Black woman is telling Trump what he can or can not say, in public and on social media. A Black woman.

That was just the beginning though. team Trump wanted a wide range of people to be able to review the documents that DOJ would over to them, in Discovery. Chutkan rejected that saying that would have allowed the 6 unindicted co-conspirators and consultants to review the documents in a city (Washington DC) where ‘everyone is a consultant. Furthermore, while Trump is reviewing the documents he can not have recording devices with him.

Chutkan identified the fact that Trump is entitled to his First Amendment rights, but,

“The fact that he is running a political campaign currently has to yield to the administration of justice. And if that means he can’t say exactly what he wants to say in a political speech, that is just how it’s going to have to be.”

Chutkan made clear that politics will not interfere with this trial.

“It is a bedrock principle of the judicial process in this country that legal trials are not like elections, to be won through the use of meeting hall, the radio and newspaper. This case is no exception … even ambiguous statement from either party or counsel … can threaten the process.”

She indicated that she will be ‘scrutinizing very carefully’ any public comments made and warned that if inflammatory are made that she might have to quicken the trial process.

The DOJ will provide Team trump with over 11.6 million documents and records. Imagine that. With regard to the speed of the trial, Trump desperately wants the trial after the 2024 Presidential election. He is not going to get his wish. As per Judge Chutkan,

“I see a desire to move this case along. The existence of a political campaign is not going to have a bearing. He is a criminal defendant. He is going to have constraints the same as any defendant. This case is going to proceed in a normal order.” 

Talk about Trump being put in his place. Trump’s reaction on Truth Social is going to be something to see. So far, 24 hours after this hearing it has been muted. that can not last long.
