Team Canada?

When the elephant lives beside you and barges into your room like a bull in China shop you suddenly have the 800 pound gorilla in your room to address. That’s what Donald Trump did when he announced that he would Levi a 25% tariff on Canadian goods the first day comes into office. The alleged reason for doing so. is due to security issues at the border, that is the entry of illegal immigrants and drugs into the US.

Justin Trudeau held a teleconference with the premiers of all the provinces in the territories yesterday to address these issues. For the most part, they walked away from the meeting united and not angry with each other.

Chrystia Freeland stated,

“We agreed that illegal drugs, especially opioids, are a scourge for both of our countries and that we need to continue to work hard to ensure our border is safe and secure and to really crack down on illegal drugs.”

it is well known that Trump and Trudeau do not have the best of relationships. Trump despises Trudeau and basically Trudeau has no respect for Trump at all. Part of Trump hatred might be due to the picture of Melania adoringly at Trudeau while Trump stands by. Danielle Smith, from my province, made note of the relationship. the relationship between Trump and Trudeau that is not any past or future potential relationship between Trudeau and Melania.

“I don’t think we should underestimate the personal animus between these two leaders. And if he’s not the right person to have at the negotiation table, we need to make sure that the right person is.”

Maybe we can have Pierre Poilievre lead to negotiations and sell the store to Trump while he and Trump walk off in the sunset arm in arm

this has to be a two-way street though. Newfoundland and Labrador premier, Andrew Furey, made note of this,

“Migrants, drugs and firearms also flow over that border into Canada.

Furry added,

“We need to have a mature, adult conversation about how to fix those real issues at the border, but applying tariffs to oil and gas, electricity, lumber and crab — that’s not going to change those real, pertinent issues that impact Canadians and Americans.”

A mature and adult conversation with Donald Trump. That could be a first.

There was common agreement, that additional law enforcement resources, particularly RCMP resources, need to be put in place to address the issue of illegal drugs. With regard to illegal immigrants crossing the border, this will become a two-way street if Trump moves ahead with his plan deportation of 12 million illegal immigrants. Many of these will look at Canada as a destination to flee to instead of being deported to their home country.

That is all I have for today.
